Josh Gifford was born in Huntingdon on August 3rd 1941, his first ride was on a horse called Controller at Newmarket in 1953 at the age of 12 with his first winner coming at the age of 14 in 1956 on the flat – Trentham Boy in the Manchester November Handicapp then in 1957 in the Chester Cup on Curry.  His first winner over jumps was at Wincanton in 1959.

Josh rode four Cheltenham Festival winners, Most Unusual, Milo, Border Jet and Merrycourt.  Josh was 2nd in the Grand National on Honeyend in 1967 and also rode three Schweppes Gold Trophey Winners. Amongst many other races.

Josh was Champion jockey four times.
