Racing is a real leveller and following on from a fantastic day at Plumpton on Tuesday, it was followed by a very disappointing day at Warwick yesterday. The high and lows of the sport. Both horses Onesteptwosteps and Sallyann ran similar races yesterday in that they were travelling well up to a point and then stopped very quickly. So its time to analyse, with Onesteptwosteps initial thoughts are his wind has caught him out in the very testing ground. He has had a wind operation and last time at Plumpton (on better ground) he finished his race and galloped all the way to the, yesterday he did not. So it is back to the drawing board bit with him. Next step will to be wait for a race on better ground and see how he copes with that and also to call the wind surgeon and discuss further options available.
Sallyann ran a similar race in that she just stopped very quickly, again could it be the ground, although with Sally she has not made any noise to suggest wind and she has run well before on soft. So today we will trot both horses up assess them for any underlying problems/injuries/lameness and if we don't find anything we will give them both another chance on better ground to see if that is the reason. Hopefully we will find the key to them. Looking back at Sally's bumpers she has shown toughness/ability and run well, so we hope we can just put a line through yesterday and move on. Ted definitely has ability its just if we can get to the bottom of his wind problem.
So today is another day and we have three runners going to Chepstow. First of all we have Miss Get The Veuve running in the 2:00 Chepstow 23 MAR 2023 2m (2m11y) Core Hereford Mares' 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle (Novices' Championship Hurdle Qualifier) (GBB) (Class 4) (4yo+). Missy is learning all the time and finished a very good third on her last outing. If she copes with the ground today then we hope for another positive run. Good Luck Suzannah. Missy will be led up by Ally Holway today and Izzy Mills is taking the horses racing. James Davies takes the ride.
Our Second runner is "Kings Krackertara" who runs in the 4:20 Chepstow 23 MAR 2023 2m7½f (2m7f131y) Polyroof Products Handicap Chase (Class 5) (5yo+ 0-100). Daphne as we call her at home will be ridden by Tabitha Worsley and is on great form at home. Tabs came in to school her last week and was very pleased. She is a staying chaser who will just keep on galloping so hopefully the ground will suit her. Daphne will be led up by Ally Holway.
Last but not least we have Pip Away running in the 5:25 Chepstow 23 MAR 2023 2m (2m11y) Central Group Mares' Open National Hunt Flat Race (Category 1 Elimination) (GBB Race) (Div II) (Class 5) (4-6yo). This is Pip Away first run we think she wants soft ground as she has got a bit of knee action but are not sure she will want it this soft. However it is a starting point for her journey. James will ride her to finish her race. Good Luck to the Lavender Chickens today ! and Team Gifford.
